Christian Slater and Patrick Gibson star in the highly anticipated prequel “Dexter: Original Sin.” It’s been 15 years since audiences first met Dexter in the latest award-winning series starring Michael C. Corridor.
The Unused Order, which will air on Paramount+, follows young Dexter, played by Gibson, as he evolves from college student to serial killing vigilante. Slater plays Dexter’s father Harry, a homicide detective who teaches his son the moral code for murder.
In the Order premiere, Dexter comes up empty handed with his father.
“Harry, he’s a cop. He’s seen a lot of people get away with things they shouldn’t have gotten away with, so he tries to steer Dexter’s bloodlust in that direction. When you think about it, imagine how many more serial killers there would be in Miami if it weren’t for Dexter,” Slater said.
“Look, he’s already justifying it,” Gibson said, laughing.
The two said that they worked together all their lives to play the role of father and son.
Slater said, “I figured out how he likes to work. He figured out how I like to work and we basically just like to have a good time.”
Both Gibson and Slater credit the writing of that order with helping them channel their characters.
Gibson said, “It’s so fun to play a character who is constrained by the day-to-day expectations of society, and then when you do these murder scenes, he’s finally able to be himself.” “So there’s an ugly, liberating quality to it, which is a weird thing to say when you’re a serial killer.”
For Slater, he said that the prequel provides an opportunity to further explore his personality, Harry, and his love for his son.
He said, “On the original show he was a character that you would get glimpses of, someone who was in Dexter’s mind.” “Now you really get to learn more about her past, what kind of things motivate her and what kind of trauma she’s had to endure, which I think led to her unconditional love for Dexter. “
“Dexter: Original Sin” premieres Friday, December 13 on Paramount+ with Showtime.
