Britain and Germany are co-chairing the Calais Crew Assembly in London to talk about a desire for closer operational cooperation and better decision sharing.
Germany will criminalize the facilitation of migrant smuggling into the United Kingdom as part of bilateral action to strengthen border security, the House Administrative Center has confirmed.
The unused proposal has of course been made by Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and German Federal Interior and Society Minister Nancy Feser and announced by the federal government on Tuesday.
It is against the law to promote public smuggling in Germany, regardless of country of origin.
On the other hand, loopholes in the German regulation could hinder the prosecution of people involved in the storage and supply of second-hand boats to smuggle migrants into the United Kingdom around the English Channel.
At this point, Berlin has shown that it will make clear in its regulation that activities promoting migrant smuggling in Germany as opposed to the United Kingdom represent a serious crime.
Cooper described Germany as a “key partner” and said untested joint action would boost border security.
“For too long organized criminal gangs have been exploiting vulnerable people, undermining border security in the UK and across Europe, while putting thousands of lives at risk. We are clear that this cannot continue,” she said.
Feser said Germany was committed to ending the “inhumane activities of criminal migrant smuggling organisations”.
“Many of these crimes have been planned in Germany. Together, we are now confronting this unscrupulous business of human hardship with even greater determination.
“This includes maintaining high investigative pressure, exchanging information as best as possible between our security officers and constantly examining financial flows to identify criminals operating behind the scenes,” he said.
illegal crossing
The pledge comes as 33,973 illegal migrant crossings have been recorded across the Channel this hour. This is an increase from 29,090 at the same time last hour and a release from 44,633 in 2022.
The House Administration has vowed to tackle the illegal immigration crisis, with a total of 148,295 immigrants having entered Britain by boat through the Channel since 2018, when the data began.
So far this hour, more than 70 people have died trying to cross the channel in small boats, including many small children and babies.
At the last moment, a spokesperson for the House Administration Center said: “We want to end all dangerous small boat crossings, which endanger lives and undermine our border security.
close cooperation
The United Kingdom-Germany trade deal is the first of its kind and follows Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s visit to Berlin in August, when he met Chancellor Olaf Scholz. This initiative could be a part of Britain’s wider ambition “Reset” its relationship With the ECU Union after Brexit.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the ECU Political Society in Hungary, Starmer said closer world cooperation was “vital” to stopping trafficking networks.
On the last occasion, a joint investigation between the UK and German governments led to the arrest of a suspected public smuggler in Leicester.
In early December, the United Kingdom Nationwide Crime Company assisted German authorities in a significant operation targeting an organized crime group suspected of favoring people smuggling into the United Kingdom in mini boats . As a result, 13 people have been arrested and 21 boats and 24 engines have been seized, as well as emergency jackets, pumps and money.
On Tuesday, Cooper and Feser joined officials from France, Belgium, the Netherlands and EU businesses Europol and Frontex to agree joint efforts to tackle trafficking gangs. The discussion was part of the Calais Crew Assembly in London, co-chaired by Germany and Britain.
