WASHINGTON—Google removed defamatory criticisms about McDonald’s on Monday after the suspect in the murder of UnitedHealth executive Brian Thompson was arrested at his restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where police say a customer The local employee was alerted about him.
The negative comments targeted towards McDonald’s were the latest in what is known as “review bombing”, where the status quo comes crashing down with a barrage of sinuous criticisms according to a political viewpoint or vogue unrelated to its unedited industry.
In this case, negative and one-star reviews surfaced, then 26-year-old Luigi Mangione was caught at a McDonald’s in Altoona. Environmental police said a customer saw him eating at the restaurant, who alerted a McDonald’s employee.
“These reviews violate our policies and have been removed,” a Google spokesperson said in an email comment.
The coverage states that rating contributions “should reflect the actual experience at a location or business” and that “content posted from multiple accounts to manipulate a location’s rating” will be gotten rid of.

The suspect fled the scene and drove into Central Soil on a motorcycle. Surveillance video captured him leaving the area and taking a taxi to a bus station in northern New York, where police believe he was put on a bus to flee the city. Police said it appeared Thompson was intentionally targeted.
The suspect was arrested after a five-day search.
