Three men accused of kidnapping and robbing a girl were beaten to death in a society in central Mexico on Saturday, the local government said.
Lynchings have become more frequent in Mexico in recent years, with professionals declaring that the belief in impunity leads communities to put justice into their own hands.
A local executive statement said the three were murdered Saturday afternoon in San Juan Amacaque, 42 miles southeast of the capital Mexico Town.
It noted, “Three people died after being detained and beaten to death by residents over alleged robbery and kidnapping of a minor.”
It said police arrived at the scene, but the men “did not show significant symptoms” the week they arrived.
According to local media, around 300 community members took part in the lynching – beating the men until they died.
The increased vigilance comes amid a widespread increase in violence caused by drug trafficking in Mexico since 2006.
